Simple Things

I am really starting to enjoy cooking again. When I was younger I was trained in the military, briefly, as a cook and then did my apprenticeship as a chef in Italian food. Things changed in my life and I moved away from it for a long time. I really got no pleasure from it and did a long stint as a frozen burrito and cereal eater.

Over the last couple of years, with my domestic life normalized, spending time at home with my family instead of always being out working the pleasure is coming back. I don't have to cook for many people, but I can make things exactly the way we prefer them and thats awesome. Also, eating out places sort of makes me a little nervous these days, not to mention it is alot more expensive.

Anyway, thats my little thought for the day, I really have moved more and more toward taking an active role in the cooking ever since Meeper tried to marinate chicken in a peach wine cooler...thats a true story. But the rest of the story is it is something we do together alot and we really enjoy. It makes me happy.

Why don't you ever remember the countless other meals I have made for you? I was experimenting one time and it turned out bad. You're a mean head!

...but I still love you.

Oh, I do remember, and I am very thankful. I most likely would be starving without your intervention...but c'mon that story is too good to pass up on!

*Makes note not to marinade with peach wine coolers*

LOL. I have found that living with LordV, I have found the joy in cooking and trying new things also. I was always a baker, great a cookies and pies, but I am experimenting more with dinners and different flavors. Trial and error. LordV hasn't died yet lol.

I hate cooking, I haven't the patience or inclination but that paints a pretty picture =]

We have such stories in my house as well... My sister and I were certain that my dad was trying to kill us. We would plead for mom not to leave us alone with that man and no pizza coupons. The time he boiled the duck...oh the stink! And who feeds children weiners and saurkraut?!

I am a German. I would feed my children weiners and kraut. (in fact, everyday...three or four times a day...more kraut.....more kraut....) What was the point of that question? Healthy diets, healthy bodies. The end.

Manners and Common Sense

17:37 Oct 01 2008

Sometimes I think about that poster or saying or whatever, "All I really needed to know I learned in kindergarten." It reminds me of the fact that no matter how old we are, for the most part, the personality breakdowns of people are exactly the same as adults as they were when we were all little kids.

That being said, I think about discipline, how we act, what sort of status you got if you were a "narc" and so on. When we were little kids and we "told on" each other, the kid doing the bad thing got in trouble if it was bad, but the tattler also got in trouble especially if it was more just like whining.

I guess I just grew up thinking that people who "tell on" other people for things are tools. People who stamp their foot and go running to "daddy" get tiresome very quickly. What happened to just talking to the person who you were upset with? People wonder why we can't solve our political issues here and abroad. It's a damn shame, but I guess, if I think about it, I've known my whole life that a lot of people are like this.

Then there are those that attempt to discuss with the person, only to be blocked or ridiculed for the attempt.

Sometimes rank and order are a means to keeping the "peace" and communication open, where there are personality conflicts.

^^ To be sure, the people I refer to exist on both sides of conflicts; I just think its unfortunate and it makes me sort of sad when people aren't getting along and feelings get hurt. When I was a chld and me and my brother fought, we had to sit in a room together until we worked it out, so I think that is just my orientation toward things.

Hell...I don't think there's anyone on VR that I couldn't sit in a room with...

now ask me if I would have a baseball bat with me and use it.. that might be a different topic altogether ;)

LOL...you know I'm just kidding...

kind of ;)

You have a very refreshing view on things. After reading your journal entry, I thought about work situations and I saw what you meant.

We have one that won't do his class lessons and takes all the other instructor clipboards to copy off theirs. We have the mother figure, always picking up after the others classes and putting away their kickboards and noodles. (waves her hand) We have the tattletails and we have the whiners trying to get out of this shift or that.

I like the idea of sitting in a room with someone and talking out a problem. Alot of things would be resolved.

There are many people who are quick to ridicule and demean others for faults they really cannot help. Yes... that reminds me of kindergarten, and silly teenage bullies.

Well exactly! I can't see anyone sacred enough or any issue off bounds that I have to put them on a pedestal or need be offended on their behalf. And anybody who is offended and seeks 'justice' needs a custard pie to the face.

Um I hate to admit it but I never went to kindergarten! But I did grow up with 2 older brothers and a younger sister in a very small house where all our fights had to be worked out ourselves or we all got whipped. Taught us all to talk things out. Now if I could just get one of my brothers to remember that.
